POTTER & WHEEL THROWING INSTRUCTOR…

After receiving a bachelor's degree in Communication in 2017 at the University of Cincinnati, Leila signed up for pottery classes at a local studio and quickly transitioned from student to member, and eventually Artist in Residence. In 2019 she founded Tierra Madera, meaning earth and wood, with the hopes of paying homage to the foundational elements of ceramics that inspire her throughout this craft. Her desire to create functional tableware and everyday vessels for the home is much in part influenced by her upbringing as a first generation Palestinian American who grew up gathering around food and family. In 2020, Leila moved into her first private studio where she transitioned to working as a full time artist. In August of 2021, she, her partner, and their dog Libby moved across the country to Nevada City, California to further pursue their respective pottery and carpentry dreams and to be closer to the surroundings that inspire their creations most.
