ART-INSPIRED POETRY: ASiF's 4th Annual EKPHRASTIC FANTASTIC

On Friday, April 3rd from 5-7pm, the Artists' Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) Art Center & Gallery will host the opening reception of its Fourth Annual “Ekphrastic Fantastic” Art-Inspired Poetry Event.

Each year, as tradition will have it - ASiF's annual Resident Artist Show in January - serves as inspirational fodder for the center's, also annual - Ekphrastic Fantastic: Art-Inspired Poetry Show. For this show, a curated group of local and regional poets are invited to view and select artworks to serve as subjects for their "ekphrastic" poems. Once written, the poems are printed and displayed on the center's gallery walls beside the artworks which inspired them. For this show, a second seated poetry event has been scheduled for Friday April 23rd from 5 - 7pm.

This year's show features the works of fourteen artists and twenty three poets, the works of which will be displayed side by side on the center's gallery walls. Published works by the poets will also be available for sale and signing at the readings.

ek·phra·sis /ˈekfrəsəs/ - Greek for the written description of a work of art produced as a rhetorical or literary exercise,[1] often used in the adjectival form ekphrastic. It is a vivid, often dramatic, verbal description of a visual work of art, either real or imagined.

Thus, "an ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art."
