Underpaintings are often monochromatic and help to define
tonal values for later painting. Underpainting gets its name
because it is painting that is intended to be painted over with color in a system of working in layers.
This is a successful way to begin a painting, (though it’s not the only way.) We will probably have time to two projects…both will be landscapes.
